Pricing
Pricing is somewhat subjective. I generally base my prices on the number of pieces, cost of materials and difficulty of construction.
(Some shapes require a lot of grinding to get a perfect fit. Any shape with sharp angles, such as in this Pin Oak leaf in "Autumn Leaves",
require a lot of precision.) In General, I charge $5 per piece for StainGlass done in lead solder, $5.50 for StainGlass done in silver
solder.
Pricing of fused glass is even more subjective. Pieces of adjacent fused glass must have a perfect fit; to avoid gaps in the finished
product. The example to the right is a fused Admiral Butterfly. Each wing required three pieces of stained glass fused to a
clear glass base. So what looks like one piece of glass, is really several pieces of glass. Therefore the cost of fused glass is
based on time, instead of number of pieces. For example, most of the fused snow flake suncatchers took 2 to 3 hours to design and fuse.
Framing
Windows can be framed in either Zinc or Oak. I charge a $60 premium for Oak. An Oak frame requires approximately four
hours more work (to cut, varnish and assemble) than a Zinc frame.
Zinc framing is $2 per foot. Oak is $7 per foot.
Cost of Materials
The cost of glass varies on the color, type and texture of the glass. Warm colors (especially red and orange) tend to cost a little
more, cool colors (green and blue and some purples) are a little cheaper. Also Multi-colored glass, such in the Pin Oak example, cost more.
Finally, some textured glasses are harder to work with (such as this Starburst Pink). In general, the cost of stained glass is anywhere
from $7 to $20 per square foot. Finally, fusible glass, which has to be tested for compatibility, cost approximately 25% more.
Custom Orders
Any of my designs can be redesigned to fit almost any dimension. I am also open to suggestions for subject matter. Color and texture of glass
can also be customized. If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, I can come with sample glass, for an in home visit. I charge 50¢
per mile for an in home visit. (I live in Pleasant Hill, just north of Walnut Creek.)
